Tag I'm it

I was tagged by my friend Amie on her blog to post 6 strange facts about myself. So here are my six strange facts about myself. I don’t have many blog-buddies since I’m the first in my group of friends to start a blog I tag anyone who chooses to share their six strange facts. (If you do not have a blog you can still leave an anonymous comment with your facts and your name)

1. One of my favorite comfort foods on this planet is warm white rice smothered in ketchup. Yummy stuff (and no never been pregers so can’t blame the weird food on anything but me).

2. I cannot stand the feel of velvet on my skin. I get instant goose bumps and it feels like I have bugs crawling on my skin for hours afterwards.

3. I can not sleep with my back turned outward. I have to have my back against the wall or my husband or I can’t fall asleep. This is so ingrained in my brain that if I happen to turn in my sleep I will wake up and promptly turn over.

4. This is something I share with Amie – I have the most overactive imagination that causes me extreme peril when it comes to scary movies. I can’t even watch the trailers for most of them now without freaking myself out. I love M. Night Shamalyan and really wanted to see Signs when it came out so I talked myself into going to the theater, paid the $7 for my ticket and spent the whole movie covering my eyes asking DJ what was happening on the screen. I have since watched the movie (which wasn’t really scary) but it took 4 hours because I had to pause it and walk away when it got too intense.

5. I separate out my colored treats like M&M’s and skittles. I make piles based on color then find the smallest number and beginning with the flavor/color I like the least will eat then until I have an equal number of each color. I then will eat one out of each pile from least favorite to favorite until they are all gone. I know how OCD that sounds and I also know that all M&M’s taste the same but I still can’t eat them any other way.

6. I love Spongebob! I watch him every Saturday while eating my breakfast and I’m 27 with no kids. I just love his little laugh. hehehe

We're back.

The wedding was beautiful! We had such an amazing time with all our friends from high school. It was surreal to see everyone in this transition stage of life. Especially because Andrew and Christina are only the 2nd in our group of friends to be married. Yep that means it's been just DJ and me as the old married folks for 6 years and boy are we glad to have some company in the group :-) We both had a good laugh while we were packing to go home. DJ told me that he felt like the old married couple for the first time and (while looking very deep in thought) informed me that he was ok with having that married feeling. To which I informed him that he had better be ok because I'm not even thinking about training another husband anytime soon, he's got me down pat. Well here's to married life with all it's fun and struggle I'd not have it any other way. We wish Andrew and Christina all the joys of sharing your life with one another.

P.S. I will post some more photos from the wedding when I get their album done :-)

Latest Cards

Here are some of my latest
greeting cards.
Enjoy!

I came up with this
card after finding this
paper at Big Lots for 2$

This is the card that Annette had us do for last months card club. Super cute!
And the big paper clip can be use as a bookmark, bonus.
I had this cute lady bug stamp and the polka dotted ribbon so I stenciled on the lady
bugs to the left and voila, a happy bugg me anytime card.

And last but not least, this is the card we did
at Gena's a couple of months ago. It's a tri-fold
and we added the flower for some dimension.

This weeks yummy salad

I love this salad and have on more then one occasion eaten second helpings of this salad right out of the serving bowl. Yummers, enjoy!

Caribbean Chicken Salad

INGREDIENTS:
1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 Tbsp. your favorite grill seasoning blend
5 cups mixed salad greens
1 mango, peeled and sliced
1 kiwifruit, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 cup fruity vinaigrette salad dressing

PREPARATION:
Place chicken in heavy duty zip lock plastic bag and sprinkle with seasoning blend. Seal bag and gently shake chicken to coat.
Grill chicken on either the BBQ or an indoor grill. Then let the chicken rest 10 minutes before cooking so the it retains the moisture.
Meanwhile, toss salad greens, mango, kiwi, onion, bell pepper, and strawberries in large bowl and divide among 4 plates. Top with chicken and drizzle with salad dressing.

If you don't like mango you can substitute mandarin oranges.

Meet the Kids

Asher is the newest addition to the family. He's supper sweet and cuddly. I just love his broken meow and the way he want to get right between DJ and I at night and steal the pillows. This is our Ophelia girl. She is a daddy's girl all the way, in fact DJ refers to her as our cat shaped dog (stolen from Meggers description of her baby Bristow - remember how she use to go crazy when we were all out front talking and the window was open Meg?) She is the leader of this house no question and will let all of us know it daily.

Tybalt the household diva. She is a Main Coon and she owns her attitude problem. She is the kind of kitty who knows she is beautiful and if she suspects that you are watching her will literally strike a pose only long enough for you to notice she is beautiful.

I just don't think I could imagine our house without cats around. They do the craziest things but when it comes down to it I love the company.

My morning view

Sometimes hitting the road at 5:45am is hard. Those are the days I forget to open my eyes and take in God's Majesty. How beautiful are the mountains and the moon just hovering over them? Love the Arizona landscape!

Keeping it cool

Welcome to my effort to help keep my house cool this summer since we are attempting to live through an Arizona summer without A/C, therefore we are going to be eating a lot of no indoor cooking meals. So I thought I would keep up the excitement of this yummy salad season by posting some of my favorite salads and no heat meals. So here is the salad of the week that I plan on O.D.’ing on this month, yummy!

Pear & Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad

1 Package (10 oz) Salad greens – spring mix or romaine are the best, though I have mixed romaine with baby spinach
2 Medium pears – thinly sliced
½ cup feta cheese crumbled – I have also used a good blue cheese
1 red bell pepper – sliced
¼ cup pecans – if you can find the glazed nuts those go great in this dish
½ cup raspberry dressing

Toss all ingredients except dressing in large bowl. Add dressing; mix lightly. Serve immediately. To make this a main dish you can add some grilled chicken or salmon, yummy yummy!

10 random oddities

A good friend of mine challenged me to come up with 10 random oddities about myself and post them, so here they are! Thanks meggers this was fun :-)

1. I can’t sit through a movie at home without doing something else at the same time. I get seriously antsy and will pull out my laptop, some paper crafts or a magazine. This drives my husband crazy because it appears that I’m not watching the TV until he goes to change the channel and I inform him hey I was watching that from behind my current project.

2. I can’t, and I mean can’t stand people talking while in the movie theater. I can have a roomful of people talking while I’m watching a movie at home, but get me into a movie theater and I get very irritated by the person having a conversation during the movie. And for the love of all things holy don’t answer your phone in the same theater as me……..

3. I have been falling asleep with a TV on for 6 years now and have become so use to the noise that if the TV goes off while I’m asleep I will wake up.

4. I am a full fledged 100% addicted World of Warcraft player, but keep that fact a secret. Hehehehe I love to play that game!

5. I can’t sleep if the sheets are tucked into the bottom of the bed. I will get out of bed and pull them out, however, I can’t sleep if my feet are uncovered.

6. I love warthogs and every time I go to the world wildlife zoo by the house I have to sing the are you achin’ for some bacon song from The Lion King. I can’t leave the park without seeing them.

7. I’m entirely terrified of bees, wasps, hornets etc….. I have made my husband pull the car over on the freeway when a bee flew into the car and refused to get back in until he proved to me the bee was dead and gone. The sight of one in my house has reduced me to tears on more then one occasion.

8. I have a addiction to people.com. I can’t start my day without going to the website and seeing what’s going on in the world of celebrities.

9. At the age of 27 I still believe there could be something under my bed and will not dangle my feet off the edge.

10. If a man cries in my presence I will automatically cry regardless of the topic at hand.
